CynaMed: Western Pennsylvania’s Premier Healthcare Staffing Agency

For two decades, CynaMed has helped connect qualified nursing professionals with healthcare jobs in the Pittsburgh area. Our network supports several different types of nursing and healthcare personnel in the region. Namely, CynaMed helps MedTechs, CNAs, LPNs, and RNs find great jobs that suit their skills and needs. Here is a breakdown of the different types of healthcare facilities where these professionals can find work.

Where Do MedTechs Work?

MedTechs, (Medication Technicians) are primarily responsible for administering medication in personal care and assisted living facilities. When they are not doing this, MedTechs might also assist with other basic aide tasks.

MedTechs are not required to have the same level of certification as CNAs or LPNs. However, they still must complete a MedTech certification program to work in healthcare. Because of this different level of certification, MedTechs typically work in personal care, rather than skilled nursing facilities.

Common working environments for MedTechs include retirement communities, nursing homes, and long-term assisted living facilities.

Where Do CNAs Work?

CNAs (Certified Nursing Assistants) provide a wide range of healthcare assistance. Their responsibilities include recording patient vital signs, assisting with routine daily tasks, and monitoring changes in a patient’s condition. CNAs often tend to multiple patients throughout the day in most facilities, although individual care is sometimes an option.

CNAs are skilled nursing professionals who must be certified and registered. Because of this, they can work in both skilled nursing and personal care facilities.

Due to their certification and the nature of their work, CNAs are a crucial part of the staff at most healthcare facilities. CNAs might work at skilled facilities like hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and private medical practices. They can also work in home healthcare. Additionally, CNAs can also work in personal care facilities like assisted living communities and nursing homes.

Where Do LPNs Work?

LPNs (Licensed Practical Nurses) are another type of skilled nursing professional. Like CNAs, LPNs will often perform a range of tasks while tending to multiple patients throughout the day. However, an LPN’s duties tend to involve more nursing responsibilities. For example, LPNs might administer medication, provide basic treatment, and update patient medical documents.

LPNs must be certified and registered to work in healthcare. As such, they are often employed in skilled nursing facilities. Like CNAs, LPNs may also find work in personal care facilities.

Licensed Practical Nurses are essential workers at nearly all types of healthcare facilities. Skilled nursing facilities like hospitals, surgery clinics, and physician offices all employ LPNs. Personal care and assisted living facilities also require the help of LPNs for daily care and treatment of their residents. Like CNAs, LPNs can also work in home healthcare environments.

Where Do RNs Work?

RNs (Registered Nurses) typically provide the most hands-on medical care of any nursing professional. RNs are responsible, along with doctors, for coordinating and administering patient medical care. They also provide educational and emotional support for patients and their families during treatment. RNs are required to be fully certified to work in healthcare. In many facilities, RNs are responsible for overseeing and coordinating the work of CNAs and LPNs.

Registered Nurses play a vital role in the day-to-day operations at all skilled nursing and personal care facilities.

RNs can find work at nearly all types of healthcare facilities, as long as they have an up-to-date certification. Skilled nursing facilities include hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and clinics. RNs might also work in schools or provide home healthcare in some cases. RNs are also important in overseeing the day-to-day healthcare of patients and workers at personal care facilities like retirement communities and nursing homes.
