Medical Coding Online Externships and Certifications

The UCI Online, Medical Coding program offers a streamlined roadmap of student services and skill development classes. This program is ideal for those who aspire to have a healthcare career in two years or less.

Our online Medical Coding program gives you the opportunity to earn an associate degree. As a benefit of the program, the Institution will pay for the cost of two attempts to sit for an American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) certification exam.

  • Certified Professional Coder-Apprentice*

In addition, obtaining your certification illustrates to potential employers that your skills are where they should be. Upon passing the certification, you would then have earned the CPC-A credential. The “-A” remains attached to it until you fulfill further experience requirements, which you can learn more about through the AAPC website. The apprenticeship status is essential due to the level of expertise coders are expected to have. Upon submitting your proof of completion, they will revise your credentials to Certified Professional Coder.

The United Career Institute educational journey culminates with an externship that the school assists you with arranging. Externships allow students to apply skills learned in real-world healthcare situations. Upon completion of your externship, students work with the career management team to search for professional coding opportunities.
