Phlebotomy – Program Highlight

The old saying is, “Stick with what you know,” At United Career Institute Irwin Campus, we know how to train students for essential healthcare careers.

According to The Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in healthcare occupations is projected to grow 16 percent from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations, adding about 2.6 million new jobs. Healthcare occupations are projected to add more jobs than any other occupational group. This projected growth is mainly due to an aging population, leading to greater demand for healthcare services.

With those statistics and possible career opportunities, UCI does its best to offer programs that will be in demand for years to come. One of those programs is our Phlebotomy course. A 12-week program with an externship component at the end allows students to begin their journey in the healthcare field. Phlebotomy enables healthcare providers to diagnose patients in distress but cannot communicate why. This applies to patients with mental and physical disabilities that prevent accurate communication with their doctors as it does to geriatric patients.

A Phlebotomy Technician does a lot more than taking blood. It’s a profession that requires compassion and care, along with interest in how blood draws can potentially save a life. Whether you find work at a blood bank or a medical office, phlebotomists are a vital part of helping health teams get the information they need to diagnose patient health issues. Aside from doing incredibly rewarding work, there are a few other significant benefits of becoming a phlebotomy technician. Some of those are a relatively short training period in a rapidly growing job market. Also, some positions allow the flexibility to work many different hours and locations.

Lastly, As a Phlebotomy Technician, you benefit from meeting new people each day. Depending on where you work, you’ll have different patients, emergencies, potential worksite locations, shifts, and coworkers. Phlebotomists have the opportunity to work alongside almost every medical professional.  Phlebotomy is just one of the rewarding programs that United Career Institute offers. We love to play a vital role in supplying Westmoreland and the surrounding counties with qualified healthcare-trained individuals to fulfill local workforce needs.
