10 Back To School Tips For Students

As we enter the 2023 school year, United Career Institute brings students our favorite back-to-school tips to help every student be successful in their education!

Keep reading to learn our top ten tips to get ready for back-to-school season!

10 Back To School Tips For StudentsTip #1: Go To Class

This first tip may seem like a no-brainer, but the best way to get the most out of your education is actually to go to class! Attending class is a great way not only to learn, but connect with your classmates and instructors, and ask questions in the moment rather than trying to play catch-up if you miss class.

Tip #2: Find Your Learning Style

Many students are unaware that there are three different learning styles, and discovering which category you fall into can help you study more effectively! Taking an online assessment to discover whether you are a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner can help you to develop study tactics to help you during your education.

Tip #3: Stay Organized

Before starting the school year, you’ll want to have a plan in place for keeping track of homework, assignments, important dates, tests, and more. Personal planners or digital calendars are both good ways to organize your tasks for school so you never miss a deadline!

Tip #4: Get Support When You Need It

School can be challenging for any student, so it is important to develop a strong support system in both your personal and academic lives. In your personal life, find people who will help support your educational goals and make you feel strong when you’re feeling down. In your academic life, developing relationships with your fellow classmates and instructors can help you get support with schoolwork and build a professional network.

Tip #5: Create A Study Group

Developing relationships with your classmates can also allow you to create study groups. Studying in groups can help you feel more prepared for tests and other assignments, brainstorm, talk through problems, and also help create lasting relationships with your classmates.

Tip #6: Don’t Procrastinate

Procrastinating is easy for many students, especially when an assignment is particularly challenging. Procrastination can cause unnecessary stress on students, which can lead to not being the most efficient in studying or doing the work. To avoid this, make sure you give yourself plenty of time on an assignment to ask questions if you need help before the deadline approaches.

Tip #7: Keep A Separate Study Space

While studying at home can have many benefits, it is sometimes easy to get distracted by the things in your everyday life. A solution to this is to have a designated study space in your home where you can focus on your schoolwork. Keeping this area tidy can also help you focus on the information you are studying by eliminating distractions.

Tip #8: Find A Positive Outlet

The stress school can bring can feel very overwhelming for some students, so it is important to have a way to relieve that stress. Doing things to help clear your mind, like taking a walk, reading, journaling, exercising, or other self-care activities, can help you relax and recharge your mind.

Tip #9: Prioritize Your Sleep

Movies and TV shows may have normalized the all-nighter, but they are not necessary to be a successful student. In fact, according to the CDC, students who get the proper amounts of sleep at night can be more academically focused and successful. Planning your time efficiently can help you balance schoolwork with a sleep schedule that works for you.

Tip #10: Think About The Big Picture

There may be times during your education when you may feel overwhelmed and want to give up. During these times, it’s important to lean into your support system and think about why you decided to continue your education. This reason may be different for every student, so think about how great your future will be once you’ve completed your education!
