Do you want to start a career in medical assisting but don’t have time to travel to a campus every day for classes? Do you need the increased flexibility of attending medical assisting classes online but still want the valuable hands-on training that allows you to practice your skills?

If this sounds like you, then our Online Medical Assisting program may be a great choice. Read on as we share all about our online medical assistant classes and hands-on clinical days!

Online Medical Assisting Classes

Completing your medical assisting classes in an online format is beneficial for many people. The increased flexibility that online classes offer allows students to better balance school, work, family, and life in various ways.

Not having to travel to and from campus every day can save you time and money. If you are a parent, attending classes online can help you save on daycare costs and give you more time to spend with your children. This extra time with your children is invaluable because they are only young once.

If you have other family responsibilities, like caring for an older parent, online classes can give you the flexibility to continue doing this. Maybe you are someone who currently works and will need to continue working as you earn your degree. Online medical assistant classes can allow you to do so.

At UCI Online, our online medical assistant courses provide the same knowledge and information that is taught in our on-campus courses. Online students receive the same caring and supportive experience that our on-campus students do.

Hands-On Clinical Days

Students who attend their medical assisting classes online have the opportunity to receive hands-on training during in-person clinical days. These clinical days, which students attend at our Irwin campus a few times during their degree program, are incredibly valuable for students.

Medical assistants are expected to be able to perform certain tasks while on the job, so having the opportunity to practice these skills helps set students up for career success. Some of the hands-on skills medical assisting students get to practice during their in-person clinical days are obtaining lab specimens, performing phlebotomy, assisting with EKGs, taking vital signs, and assisting with exams.

As they are completing online classes and attending hands-on clinical days, medical assisting students are also preparing for professional certifications from the National Healthcareer Association. The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant* certification validates your medical assisting knowledge and skills to potential employers.

Students can also sit for two additional certifications, including Certified EKG Technician** and Certified Phlebotomy Technician**. These additional certifications show potential employers that you can complete specific medical assisting skills.

After completing their online medical assisting program, students are prepared to work at various healthcare facilities, including hospitals, doctor’s offices, clinics, add more.
