About United Career Institute

United Career Institute has a rich history of training healthcare professionals in the greater Pittsburgh area. The United Career Institute campus was established in 1987 in Irwin, Pennsylvania, and was formerly known as the Pennsylvania Institute of Health and Technology.
The History of UCI

The name United Career Institute (UCI) was established in 2019 by West Virginia Junior College in Morgantown, West Virginia, as a short-term career training school that provides skills-based training that meets the needs of local employers

The UCI Experience

United Career Institute strives to provide an exceptional learning experience for every student who comes through its doors. By following our academic process, each student’s experience can be tailored to their specific needs to allow for a more successful education.

A combination of classroom lectures, hands-on lab and clinical experiences, a real-world externship, and certification* preparation fully prepares the student to enter the workforce with the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to be successful in their given career.

In addition to the training a student receives at UCI, they will also have a success team of faculty members, the career management department, instructors, and fellow students to lean on for support. Our career management team will assist in arranging a real-world externship, help with interview preparation, job placement, and more to help ensure that every student leaves United Career Institute feeling confident about their future career. In addition, UCI alums can return to the campus in the future to take brush-up refresher courses in their field to stay on top of industry changes.

Our Programs

UCI has been training professionals to meet the needs of local healthcare employers for over 30 years. As the healthcare industry evolves, the training methods must also adapt to the changing times. As a result, United Career Institute developed our online platform to allow students to learn essential healthcare skills from the comfort of their homes and then put their knowledge into practice during interactive labs and an externship.

Online Programs

Students have the opportunity to take online medical assisting courses, online medical coding training, and online medical office administration classes to further their education. As an online medical assisting student, you can expect to take didactic classes virtually and then complete weekend clinical experiences at the campus to solidify the skills developed in class. As an online medical coding or medical billing student, you’ll complete your courses online, along with customizable labs, to help simulate scenarios you may experience in the workforce.

Career In A Year

United Career Institute’s career-in-a-year path is an excellent option for students looking for a more accelerated career training option! By earning a 12-month diploma in Medical Assisting or Medical Billing/Administration, students are open to the same job opportunities upon graduation as the 18-month degree program options.

Residential Programs

Along with the option to complete some programs virtually, UCI students pursuing Practical Nursing or Phlebotomy programs will complete their courses and hands-on components at the Irwin campus. This allows students to practice the important skills throughout their educational journey rather than during select clinical days.
