All across the country, the healthcare industry continues to grow, and the same is true in Westmoreland County. With an aging population and more people needing medical care, the healthcare industry is projected to continue growing.
In order to keep up with the increased demand for medical services, healthcare providers need employees and professionals at all levels, from those just starting out in their career, to those with many years of experience.
This opens up opportunities for entry-level medical professionals to get in on the ground floor and begin the journey toward a successful healthcare career.
Expanded Healthcare Providers
In 2004, Excela Health was founded when three hospitals came together to meet the healthcare needs of the local community. Excela is the largest healthcare employer in Westmoreland County with more than 4,900 employees, a medical staff of more than 735 physicians, and healthcare professionals in 35 clinical specialties.
In addition, Highmark Health and Allegheny Health Network are entering the healthcare market in Westmoreland County with the opening of a new hospital and community cancer center.
Increased Demand for Medical Professionals
With major healthcare providers expanding their operations in Westmoreland County, the demand for entry-level healthcare professionals is expected to increase. “We see this trend continuing to increase for the next 5-10 years,” said Arnold Thimons, Campus President at United Career Institute.
Hospitals, doctor’s offices, labs, clinics, and other medical facilities are actively hiring people with the right combination of hands-on skills, education, and experience, so they can provide an increased level of care and a better experience to patients.
Partnerships with Local Employers
To help meet the needs of the growing medical industry in Westmoreland County, United Career Institute is working to provide trained, career ready professionals to local healthcare employers.
“We’re building partnerships with both Excela Health and Allegheny Health Network to understand their needs and incorporate those needs into our programs and training,” said Arnold.
Our Medical Assisting and Medical Office Administration healthcare training programs are designed to meet the current standards of local employers, giving United students an advantage when starting their careers.
“United has externship agreements with both Excela and Allegheny Health Network to provide opportunities for students to train there,” said Arnold. These hands-on training opportunities help students gain real-world experience and get their foot in the door with local employers.
