About United Career Institute’s Programs
How long are UCI’s programs?
United Career Institute offers practical nursing and allied healthcare training programs. The Practical Nursing program is completed in 12 months, while the Medical Coding, Clinical Medical Assistant, and Medical Office Administration programs each take 18 months to complete. Additionally, we offer a 12-month Medical Assisting diploma program.
How much is tuition?
Tuition costs can vary, as they depend on the program, so please contact our admissions team for the most accurate and current information. Otherwise, visit the course catalog to view the statement of tuition and fees.
Where are labs and clinicals located?
Hands-on lab training is conducted on campus at UCI’s Irwin, PA, location, giving you the opportunity to apply your knowledge in a supportive, practical setting. Additionally, clinical experiences take place at hospitals and medical centers throughout the region, ensuring you gain real-world experience in professional healthcare environments.
Is United Career Institute accredited?
United Career Institute is accredited as an institution by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), ensuring our programs meet our standards of quality. Our practical nursing training program has been fully approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing, allowing students to be eligible to sit for their nursing boards* upon graduation.
Additionally, our curriculum aligns with the educational requirements for licensure in several other states, offering graduates greater flexibility and opportunities to pursue their nursing careers beyond Pennsylvania.
How much of UCI’s education is online?
United Career Institute’s online/hybrid education model is thoughtfully designed so students can balance personal and professional responsibilities with their education commitment. Coursework and lectures are delivered online, allowing you some flexibility to learn from home, while also occasionally attending hands-on labs and clinicals that provide the hands-on experience essential for a career in healthcare.
Students in our allied healthcare training programs are required to participate in multiple lab experiences throughout their time. This provides valuable, hands-on experience in a controlled, supportive environment. Additionally, students must complete an externship near the end of their program that requires an in-person commitment.
Do I need to be logged in at a certain time daily?
Lectures and coursework are delivered online, allowing you to learn at your own pace and on a schedule that fits your lifestyle. While most of the coursework can be completed anytime and from anywhere, there may be occasional instances when students are required to attend a scheduled virtual meeting with an instructor or program director. These sessions are designed to provide additional support and ensure you stay on track with your progress.
About UCI’s Admissions Process
What can I use to study for the TEAS exam?
Your admissions team member can provide a list of free resources available online to help you prepare to take the TEAS exam. For students who do not pass on their first attempt, our sister school, West Virginia Junior College (WVJC), offers a free two-week online TEAS Prep Course.
Do I need any prerequisites before enrolling?
United Career Institute follows a direct admission model. This means that students who are accepted into their chosen program immediately start taking classes related to their field of study. This approach eliminates the need for unrelated general education or prerequisite classes, helping students stay on track and graduate faster with the skills they need for their careers.
Will I be able to ask questions?
Questions are encouraged! At United Career Institute, we are dedicated to your success. All faculty and staff are happy to assist you in any way they can.
About UCI’s Financial Aid Process
Do you accept financial aid?
United Career Institute participates in federal financial aid^ programs, offering valuable support to students who qualify. Our financial aid^ team is committed to working closely with and supporting our students through this process. Using the information gathered from their FAFSA, we will work one-on-one with students to create a customized financial plan and understand their options.
We help students explore all available resources and guide them through each stage of the process, so they can focus on what truly matters: building a successful future in healthcare.
Can previous credits be transferred from another institution?
If you have credits from previously attended institutions, they can potentially be transferred. Students will be required to provide official transcripts from any other institutions they attended, for which they wish to have transfer credits considered. Those transcripts will go through a review process before determining whether the credits can be applied.

Does UCI help with job placement?
UCI’s career management services can assist students with resume writing, interview preparation, career advising, filling out job applications, networking, and more.
Does the student schedule clinicals, or does UCI schedule them?
Clinical experiences are built into UCI’s practical nursing training program. The student will collaborate with a member of the UCI practical nursing team to create a clinical schedule that works for the student.
Can the externship be completed at my current employer?
The facility where an externship takes place must meet certain requirements. If that criterion is met, then the student is approved to complete their externship at the desired location.
