Carrie Friend - Faculty HighlightCarrie Friend is the Medical Externship Coordinator and Lead Medical Faculty member at United Career Institute (UCI). Holding two associate degrees from West Virginia Junior College (WVJC) as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) and Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA), Carrie boasts additional certifications* as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) and Certified EKG Technician (CEG). Her diverse professional background includes stints at WVU Medicine, Physicians Urgent Care, and MedPlus. At UCI, Carrie not only coordinates medical externships but also imparts knowledge in various courses, such as Medical Terminology 1 and 2, Anatomy 1 and 2, Introduction to Clinical Procedures, Clinical Laboratory Procedures, Clinical Medical Procedures, Medical Topics (for Clinical Medical Assistants), and externship.

Choosing UCI was a deliberate decision for Carrie due to the school’s affiliation with WVJC. Her deep connection to these institutions is reflected in her commitment to the success of her students. The most rewarding aspect of her work at UCI is the opportunity to interact with and guide aspiring medical professionals. Carrie draws inspiration from her family, considering them her driving force and a constant source of motivation. Her determination to set a positive example for her family propels her to strive for improvement continually.

Carrie finds pride in witnessing the success of others, a testament to her passion for helping students achieve their career goals. As a long-term career objective, she aspires to contribute to the growth and success of the next generation for as long as possible. Beyond her professional pursuits, Carrie indulges in hobbies such as crafting, gardening, reading, and music. These activities provide a well-rounded balance to her life, allowing her to unwind and recharge.

Adding a unique dimension to her profile, Carrie is an ex-military professional, having served in the Navy. Her military background undoubtedly enriches her perspective and instills discipline in her approach to education and mentorship. Carrie’s journey has been marked by diverse experiences, having held over 40 jobs.
