The History of United Career Institute

Keep reading to learn more about United Career Institute, a trusted healthcare training institution in southwestern Pennsylvania.

About United Career Institute

United Career Institute has a rich history of training healthcare professionals in the greater Pittsburgh area. United Career Institue was formerly known as the Pennsylvania Institute of Health and Technology, established in 1987 in Mt. Braddock, PA.

In 2019, PIHT underwent rebranding efforts led by its sister school, West Virginia Junior College, to better reflect the short-term, skills-based healthcare career training it offered. Thus, United Career Institute was born, and the new location was established in Irwin, PA.

The UCI Experience

United Career Institute strives to provide an exceptional learning experience for every student in its healthcare training courses. By following our established academic process, each student’s experience can be tailored to their specific needs, allowing for a more successful education.

Our best-of-both-worlds approach includes a combination of virtual lectures, hands-on lab and clinical experiences, a real-world externship, and certification* preparation. This gives students some flexibility while thoroughly preparing them to enter the workforce with the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to succeed in their chosen careers.

In addition to the training a student receives at UCI, they will also have a success team of faculty members, the career management department, instructors, and fellow students to lean on for support. Our career management team will assist in arranging a real-world externship, help with interview preparation, job placement, and more to help ensure that every student leaves United Career Institute feeling confident about their future career. In addition, UCI graduates can return to the campus in the future to take brush-up refresher courses^ as their industry evolves to remain current on best practices in their field.

Our Programs

UCI has been training professionals to meet the needs of local healthcare employers for over 30 years. As the healthcare industry evolves, training methods must also adapt. As a result, United Career Institute developed our online platform to allow students to learn essential healthcare skills from the comfort of their homes and then put their knowledge into practice during interactive labs, clinical rotations, and an externship.

Online Degree Programs

United Career Institute offers online healthcare training programs to prepare students for careers in Clinical Medical Assistant, Medical Coding, and Medical Office Administration. As an online medical assisting student, you can expect to take didactic classes virtually and then complete several weekend clinical experiences at the campus or regional medical facilities to solidify the skills developed in class. As an online medical coding or medical office administration student, you’ll complete your courses, customizable labs, and interactive simulations online to gain well-rounded skills and knowledge of situations you may experience in the workforce.

Online and Online/Hybrid Diploma Programs

United Career Institute’s career-in-a-year path is an excellent option for students seeking an even more accelerated career training opportunity. By earning a 12-month diploma in Medical Assisting, graduates are prepared to sit for a certification* exam and receive the same assistance from career management for job opportunities.

The Online/Hybrid Practical Nursing diploma program trains students for careers as practical nurses in only 12 months. This program combines virtual coursework with hands-on lab and clinical experiences at the UCI campus or regional medical facilities. Upon completion, graduates will be prepared to sit for the NCLEX-PN~ licensure examination and enter the workforce as practical nurses.
